What does a PA do during CanSkate?
Assist the coach with the delivery of the program
Help with program set-up and clean-up (get out and put away teaching aids, props, name tags)
Assist with on-ice warm up and cool down activities
Demonstrate skills and model behaviour
Lead station rotations, lead circuits and rotations
Provide support and assistance to skaters who need it

Program Assistants
at the
Whistler Skating Club
Program Assistants (PAs) are skaters who have been trained by CanSkate coaches to assist in the delivery of the CanSkate program. PAs can include current and former club skaters that have reached a star 3 skill level and skaters from other sports such as hockey, ringette and speed skating, and should be at least 11 years of age.
When is CanSkate this Winter
Tuesdays, 4:30-5:15 / January 10 to March 7th, 2023
Thursdays, 5:00-5:45 pm / January 12 to March 9th, 2023
PAs may volunteer for one or both days per week.
What training is provided?
Pre-Season training is provided by our club coaches, according to the Skate Canada curriculum, and includes both on-ice and off-ice orientation.
Throughout the season, PAs are supported and monitored by our club CanSkate Program Assistant Coordinator.
What compensation is provided?
Participating in the CanSkate program can provide the volunteer hours required by students towards the applicable credits required (high school, hockey academy, scholarships). In addition, WSC also gives $5 per session attended towards a gift certificate of skater's choice from a variety of local businesses (i.e Whoola Toy Company, Great Glass Elevator Candy Shop, Armchair Bookstore, The Circle, Mt. Currie Coffee Company)
