CanSkate is Skate Canada’s flagship Learn to Skate program. Conducted in a fun, friendly environment focusing on continuous movement, the CanSkate program showcases a comprehensive series of balance, control and agility skills, using a nationally-tested and proven curriculum and instructed by professionally trained and certified coaches. CanSkate supports skater success in developing strong basic skills on the ice, and is the foundation for all ice sports including figure skating, hockey, speed skating and ringette. Skaters are grouped by age and skill, beginning in Stage 1 progressing to Stage 6. Awards and incentives are earned as skaters progress.

For children aged 2-4

The CanSkate stream is Canada's learn-to-skate program for beginners.

What to Expect - Action, movement and fun! Lessons are given in a group format with a coach-to-student ratio of a maximum 1:10. Skaters progress at their own rate and coaches make sessions active using teaching aids, upbeat music and a wide variety of activities that create a motivational environment and promote learning.

This skating program is tailored to young skaters 5 to 9 years of age who show interest and ability beyond the recreational level. STAR Academy allows skaters to develop their skills and techniques in a smaller group setting. A dedicated coach guides the students through various skating skills each week and allows skaters to evolve their unique skill set within the Skate Canada program.

Take it further, enjoy competition in a safe and healthy environment, and develop high level skating skills. STARSkate has been the mainstay of figure skating in Canada for more than four decades. The STARSkate program consists of figure skating skills in four areas – Skating Skills, Ice Dance, Free Skate and Interpretive, with skaters having the opportunity to be assessed (tested) at various level of progression.
